The musical team of Mercy’s Cross is living proof that God’s ways are higher than man’s. The group testifies to this fact each time they have the opportunity to step in front of a church congregation or onto a concert stage. Each group member possesses deep roots within the Gospel music field, and is deeply committed to sharing the message of the Gospel in song wherever the opportunity is presented.
Group members Joey Matthews, Deana Warren and Kelly Young first learned of their common interests while serving as members of the musical praise team at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church in Angier, NC. It was during that time that the three vocalists decided to sing a “special” for their home church congregation. This special song eventually led to the formation of Mercy’s Cross, as God began to open doors to allow the three the opportunity to expand their musical talents and travel to area churches. The group welcomes the opportunity to share God’s amazing love in song with any congregation, as their desire is to encourage and uplift fellow believers in Christ, as well as point non-believers to the saving grace of our Lord and Savior.
In 2008, the group’s debut, self-titled CD was released. Produced by noted producer Wesley Pritchard, the recording contains several original songs, as well as that very first song the three sang together.
In the summer of 2012, the group recorded their sophomore release, also under the direction of producer Wesley Pritchard. "God Did It” showcases the group's rich vocal blend and features original songs, as well as numerous popular songs from several of Gospel music's most prolific writers.
In April, 2014, their third recording was released, featuring many of the songs the group has sung over the past 10 years. The collection of favorites will include such popular numbers as “Jesus Saves,” “Written In Red,” “Rock Of Ages” and “Something’s Happening,” just to name a few.
The beginning of 2018 afforded Mercy’s Cross to release their fourth recording, "Brighter One". Produced by Greg & Charlotte Ritchie, and recorded at Nashville’s famed Skaggs Place Studio, the recording features something for every music lover, regardless of stylistic preference. The recording showcases the trio’s versatility and is sure to become a listener favorite.
It was to be just a normal service on that Sunday morning when three friends stood to sing a “special.” No one attending that service could have anticipated what lay in store - no one, except God. He certainly ordained the moment, proving once again, His ways are higher than ours.
